For mRNA Business unit, located in Geleen, Netherlands we have exciting opportunities. Become part of a group that enables its customers to meet some of the greatest challenges in patient treatment and join us by applying for the position as a Principal Scientist mRNA in Process Development.

Key responsibilities:

• Representation: act as a deputy of the team manager when needed and support the process development management.
• Leadership: provide strong scientific, technical and regulatory leadership at project level. Lead individual scientists and lab technicians on complex projects.
• Projects: lead multi-disciplinary matrix teams on complex projects in the area of scientific expertise. Lead problem solving and lessons learned activities.
• Scientific tasks: design of advanced experimental plans and their execution, in process data analysis, write and review high quality reports.
• Customer interactions: develop strong customer relationships.
• Training: lead training activities in the area of expertise.
• Provide solutions to identified risks, issues, problems. Report issues in a timely fashion.
• Facilitate improvements to departmental business processes and contribute to the implementation of innovative technologies.
• Demonstrate flexibility to support other activities within the department.
• Proactive approach to own continuous professional development.

Key requirements:

• Deep Understanding of IVT critical process parameters, reaction optimization and scale-up.
• Experience in mRNA manufacturing in batch and controlled (bioreactor) modalities.
• Experience with a wide range of mRNA analytical techniques for large nucleic acid molecules, in particular with analytical assays associated with IVT and purification processes.

• Implementation of DOE studies & high-throughput screening for IVT and purification processes.
• Knowledge of technology transfer and GMP manufacturing.
• General understanding and experience of purification techniques such as chromatography (including affinity, ion exchange hydrophobic interactions, etc.) and tangential flow filtration (TFF).
• Demonstrated ability to efficiently work in a fast paced and fluid environment.
• Knowledge of molecular biology and mRNA constructs design.
• Experience within the manufacturing of large mRNA molecules including self-amplifying RNAs and circular RNAs would be a plus.
• General understanding of the mRNA-LNP encapsulation process and relevant associated analytical methods.
