SABIC is seeking a high energy, goal-focused individual who is a subject matter expert in continuous fiber thermoplastic composite processing, and has the communication skills needed to help our diversified global business achieve its goals.

The Advanced Composites team is a global team targeting the creation of (continuous fiber) thermoplastic composite solutions for SABIC, by introducing innovative and value added downstream products such as material forms for the market. It does so in close co-operation with the Composites Business Development team. The team is part of SABIC’s Specialties BU and continues to expand and grow.

A large part of the composites team is based in Geleen, The Netherlands, with additional personnel at various locations in Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Job Purpose & Responsibilities

• Evaluate mass production technologies with respect to cost-performance benefits and create innovative ideas for improvements.
• Establish methods to link final product properties to the critical process steps.
• Develop and optimize impregnation methods for thermoplastic composites.
• Assess and implement QA/QC methods for material production and part processing technology.
• Closely interact with the material and application development teams and formulate improvements.
• Network and closely work with technical experts in different SABIC Strategic Business Units.
• Document work and present to stake holders in various business functions.
  

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have a proven record of accomplishments in the area of thermoplastic composite processing and preferably 2 years relevant work experience. He/She should be a self-motivated professional able to work independently to reliably deliver results.

Key requirements include:

• Graduate education (preferably a Ph.D.) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer   Science or other relevant field.
• Good understanding of tape impregnation and thermoplastic composite processing fundamentals.
• Fundamental understanding of polymers and fibrous materials.
• Experience with composites characterization (both destructively and non-destructively).
• Knowledge of basic statistical analysis techniques preferably experience with DoE.
• Proven ability to prioritize, manage, and simultaneously deliver on multiple projects.
• Strong interpersonal, communication & presentation skills.
• Strict adherence to company safety (EHS) policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated documentation and presentation skills.
• Availability for occasional travel up to 25%.
